Becoming SI

The Journey of Luminosity

If things are getting you down, I get it.

It seems everyone I speak with is struggling, at some level, with world news, worry, fear, uncertainty. And sadness. Sadness, that instead of moving away from war we seem to be moving more toward it. Sadness that instead of moving away from intolerance and violence, we seem to be seeing more and more of it, at so many levels.

Yet, despite strategic plans and practical thinking, deep down, as individuals, most of us know what we crave –

Kindness. We all want it.

Love. We all need it.

Hope. God knows we could use it.

There is a level of turmoil, in the news cycle and in the confusion that spawns from uncertainty, that has the capacity to knock us off our center. It can put a kink in our zip line and stop us in our tracks or send us spinning and leave us spiraling in fear.

It is not an easy time. No matter how big a happy face we try to put on it, I believe we are all crying a little inside…I hope we are crying a little inside – crying for the degradation of souls, at both ends of the spectrum. Crying for the pain of souls collapsed under greed. Crying for souls crushed under poverty, or cruelty. Crying for humanity.

We cry. And then, we pick ourselves up. We reach deep inside, and we latch on to our soul-strings. We pull up our integrity; we straighten our dignity; we stand in our sovereignty.

And we rise.

Like everything, it seems, rising is a practice. I am practicing rising. I practice holding that middle ground, where I don’t get spun, where I don’t get lost in despair or worry. I practice staying centered and grounded.

How? Well, of course, meditation is my go-to tool for keeping balanced and full of light. When I feel despair or concern, I can usually look back and see that I have not been meditating enough. [For those who wish to meditate more for balance and wellness, please note that, in one week, I will have access again to my studio and will be posting regular meditation videos to my You Tube channel. You can subscribe here Cate’s YouTube to get notices of when they drop.]

As an empath, I also have to really practice caring, caring deeply without tearing myself up. I practice experiencing compassion without collapsing into a sobbing mess. I practice being tenderly human in an increasingly inhumane world. As Ram Dass said, “When you bear what you think you cannot bear, who you think you are dies. You become compassion. You don’t have compassion – you are compassion. True compassion goes beyond empathy to being with the experience of another. You become an instrument of compassion.”

To become an instrument of compassion… to have your whole being hum with compassion…. This. This is a thing of beauty. This is what the world needs. It does not mean you become mush. It means you become luminous. I want to be luminous.

And on the way there, I remind myself to take nothing personally. I remind myself that it is not about me. Or you. Or any of us, really. It is all part of the journey. It is part of the precious experience of life here on this blue and green planet, spinning through space, interacting with a lunar satellite, and radiating in the warmth of a huge solar star. What a glorious experience, this life on earth! What a glorious opportunity to grow, to expand, to become super-human, to become individual points of SI (Spiritual Intelligence).

And so it goes. My heart aches with sadness and sings with joy. My soul calls out for mercy while dancing in the light. And it is all, somehow, wrapped up in this one spark of existence, this one chance at life, this one grand experience of being human. I embody it fully. I become all of it. I embrace every bit of it, and I call myself blessed. I hope you, too, are finding the grace to embrace all of it, and call yourself blessed.

With love, Cate
